I know I have… and I still catch myself from time to time.
It was about 8 months after having Jace and I was on my way to get my hair cut.
I felt like a brand new person, with a brand new mindset, a brand new body and I needed a change.
I wanted something bold.
I wanted to do something different. Something to match how I was feeling on the inside.
I saw a picture of Scarlet Johanssen’s hair cut at the time and I sent the pic to my stylist friend.
“Do you think I could pull this off?”
“Yes, you definitely can.”
Nervous and excited. I was going to go for it.
I made the appointment.
I told a total of 3 people because I wasn’t sure if I was going to go through with it.
You see, it was new for me, and honestly, I was scared of what others would say.
On the way to the salon, I decided to tell someone else what I was about to do. She responded, “Don’t do it. It won’t look good and it’ll be hard to grow back if you don’t like it.”
Now, this person didn’t mean to hurt my feelings, she was just trying to protect me from something that she thought could end “badly.”
I thought about what she said and decided that maybe I shouldn’t do it after all. It was a bold move and maybe I wasn’t ready for it.
I walked into the salon and as I sat down in the chair, I told Natassja, my stylist, to start with a trim, so she did.
She was almost done and she was probably wondering when we were going to actually start cutting my hair like I had wanted to.
She must have sensed my hesitation and all of a sudden, she leaned down, whispered in my ear, “You didn’t drive all the way out here for me to just trim it.”
I will never forget that moment.
Someone taking a stand for me and what I wanted.
“You’re right,” I said. “Shave it.”
Now, I realize that I’m only talking about hair here, but how many times have you not gone through with something because of someone else’s opinion?
- Don’t let anyone’s opinion of you get to your heart.
- You gotta protect your ideas, your dreams, and your goals… because they’re yours.
- They’re going to be different for everyone and that’s why it’s so important to stand your ground and go after what you want… whatever it is.
- Most importantly, keep people around you that support you and cheer for you. Hold them close.
I want you to dream a little–
What would be so amazing for you to achieve?
If nothing was holding you back, what would you declare?
What would you go for?
Please comment below, I’d love for you to share them with me.
I would be honored to be that person for you.
